Hi folks Having spent some time making terrain for siege games we finally got round to playing one this morning (hooray for teachers on half term!) The scenario was one adapted from the WAB siege book. 2:1 attacker: defender ratio (2000:1000 points), 9 turns with the attacker trying to get 5 models off the defended table edge. In the end we just fought until we ran out of time (only 8 turns I think). However the defenders were easily holding up the attack (other than a fell beast that could have flapped off the table at any time) The defenders ended up with only a dwarf ballista for siege weaponry as Josh didn't manage to paint his allied trebuchet in time, so the attacking catapults just pummelled the walls, getting a breach in 2 turns and then turning on the defenders with no opposition. In addition the volley fire from the orcs so so effective (?!) that it became very one sided until contact was made at the walls. The comedy highlight however was a rohan throwing spear taking out the witch king. It was noticeable how easy it is for a few defenders to hold a wall against ladders and siege towers, although they would have ground down eventually. We learnt a few lessons though for our next game (elves defending against isengard) - Both sides need siege weapons (or at least catapults/ trebs) - Start the attackers fairly close to the walls or the beginning is really boring - Battering rams are pretty rubbish - 3:2 is probably a fairer ratio, with a longer game time than 9 turns. - Siege ladders are really fiddly! That said it was a cracking game and looked really good - I've included a few pictures: The attackers close on the walls Contact! Khamul picks off some archers for cheap will points The ballista crew get a nasty surprise! Cheers Tom |

Really like the pictures, looked fun. As for the throwing spear, stuff like that tends to happen. |

Looks like a fantastic board you have there, I'm sure plenty of fun battles have been fought there. I agree starting close up makes things a lot more interesting, I hit that problem with my Helm's Deep. Although my opponent slaughtered half of my elves on the deeping wall with crossbows before he even got close. Ladders are fiddly and I find making your own out of balsa wood works better. They're not quite so light which means they don't ping off almost when you bump them. Look forward to seeing another report Drum |

I really like your fortress, dwarves are pretty strong defending, in a castle they would do well to hold out! |
