Nice report seems the hobbits have no real chance here.

I can see that being a hard one for the hobbits the slow move and low attacks would really hurt them in this.

Nice report, though I kept getting "stuck" on your website, and Gollum can only move 5" not six (this may have helped balance?). Anyway, such a lovely spider.

Also AAR = Azor Ahai Reborn? Is Shelob the new AAR?

You know Shelob only gets +1 attack on the charge and not double? She only gets double strikes when the target is knocked over. Nice report though.

Thanks. :-)

"Stuck"? are the pages not loading properly or something when you view it?

I got the 6" for Gollum's move from the latest Mordor book.

"AAR" = "After Action Report"... its a bit quicker than writing "BattleReport"
;-)
Thanks again :-)

My understanding is...

Shelob has 1 attack on her profile...

If she charges, she gets +1 attack, so that in effect 'doubles' her attacks, from 1 to 2, if she charges...
If she then wins her fight, and thus knocks prone her targets, they now count trapped, effectively doubling again her chances to wound now... so those 2 attacks on the charge, are now 4 chances to wound against prone trapped foes... with a re-roll for Venom... !

She's quite a handful!

If she doesn't charge, shes 1 attack, and then 1 chance to wound, but still with a re-roll for Venom...

Thanks, glad you liked it.

Nice report. Does seem a bit strange. Gollum should be 5", as you would want to use the old profile (which the scenario was designed for).

As far as shelob goes, thats right. When rolling to wound roll 2 dice at a time, 1 for each attack as you should be assigning your attacks (doesn't matter if you are only attacking one model though).

The evil side only wins if Shelob gets the kills, not Gollum according to my book, maybe that would make some difference? You have to be careful with gollum this way I guess.

Lastly, it would take 6 turns, but the ROTK rulebook scenario says Frodo can exit the eastern edge to win.

Great battle report!

I like the suggestion in the comments about staggering the scenario with Frodo v Shelob first, and then Sam coming in as reinforcements.

Thanks mate - its good to be back!

I'm busy having a clear out of excess minis of other games and periods, to focus more on LOTR from now on, though I'll still be featuring Empire of the Dead, and Pirates with LotHS... as I like skirmish games, as they are fun to play, easy to put on, don't need a million models and usually have good looking terrain boards for visually pleasing battle reports...

I am also looking to complete gaps in my LOTR collection - Since WOTR pretty much failed, there is no longer a need to collect hundreds of figures, for one force, and thus with the skirmish game coming back to the fore, its more feasible to eventually collect all armies, so long as the figures I still need don't go OOP before I can get my hands on them!

Likewise I have always enjoyed your battle reports on your own blog - I wish I had more active LOTR players in my own area...

My son has reached an age now, 10 going on 11, where he's really getting the game now, and can be pretty much trusted to handle the models without wrecking them. I suppose I have indoctrinated him into LOTR since he was a 'nipper', (watched FotR for the first time when he was about 5), and he's now reading the novel, having just finished 'book1', and finding it rather exciting how the story from the novel, differs from the movie he is so used to. So hopefully it will always be something we can share and enjoy together... though I still have to pry him from the computer from time to time ;-)

Thanks, Yes I agree, I think that will make it more interesting and perhaps more like the actually story... rather than having Gollum piling in from the get go... I have a feeling he'd be rather wary of getting that close to Shelob himself anyway! Wouldn't want to get turned into an entree after all!?

Good point, with it being an older scenario, to use the reduced Gollum move rate, though not sure it will make such a difference to the game, may be delay his involvement by one turn...

I'll have to check the victory conditions again, I don't recall it mentioning an escape from from the side of the board..., I was using the scenario from the RotK Journeybook

I was using the ROTK rulebook - don't have the journeybook. I find the old ones are a bit more balanced, but still quite a tough scenario.

Ah I see, its rather interesting to see how the scenarios have been tweaked through the varying rules/supplements issues... for example there's a great many varieties of 'Balins Tomb' now to try!
