Post subject: | Silé's Hunters - Battle Company |
Well I haven't done a battle report in a while, so what better way to start than by doing battle companies? I've altered the Dwarves Battle Company so I can do a predominantly rangers force. (You can also follow progress on my blog) Here's the company: Silé: Previously a member of the Iron Guard, Silé requested to make a small hunting party designed to kill small groups of Goblins, Orcs and other evil creatures, to reduce the threat to the Dwarves. Dwarf Ranger with Throwing Axes - lieutenant Dwóin: An experienced fighter, Dwóin fought alongside Silé as a member of the Iron Guard, after being promoted from a Dwarf archer. He became the first member to join Silé’s hunters, and is the second in command. Dwarf Ranger with Bow - sergeant Baeli: Baeli was once offered to join the Khâzad Guard. However, he refused, instead requesting that he train other Dwarves. Baeli joined the Hunters as he saw it as a good way to train Dwarves, and has chosen to mentor Ári. Dwarf Ranger with Two-handed Axe - sergeant Fáli: A veteran ranger and incredibly skilled tracker, Fáli was specifically chosen to join the hunters so that he could locate small groups of the Dwarves enemy’s, before using his keen eyesight to shoot them with his bow. Dwarf Ranger with Bow Nári: Nári was being trained by Fáli to track Orcs, and to continue doing so he chose to join the hunters. Although young, Nári has still slain many Orcs, and seeks to avenge his dead father, who was mauled to death by vicious Wargs. Dwarf Ranger with Two-handed Axe (has unbreakable bond: Ári) Ári: Nári’s younger brother, Ári, will follow his sibling fearlessly wherever he goes. Ári joined the hunters because Nári did, and the two have formed an incredibly strong bond, often meaning one can go into a berserk rage if the other is hurt. Dwarf Ranger with Throwing Axes (has unbreakable bond: Nári) First report coming soon... |

Nice Dwarves, I thought it strange that neary every dwarf in it had some affiliation with either Iron Guard or Khazad Guard, but on the other hand, it suggests they are skilled, and i like the names anyway. Good luck |

Post subject: | Re: Silé's Hunters - Returning with Information |
Returning with Information: Dwóin, Baeli and Nári left the Goblin camp unnoticed. Silé would want to know about this. They climbed over the hill, and Dwóin froze, before raising his bow – between them and the others was a pack of Wargs! Good: Silé, Dwóin, Baeli, Fáli, Nári, and Ári Evil: 6 Wild Wargs To win, the good side must drive off the Wargs. The Wargs had split up into three smaller, the first group leaping into Dwóin, Baeli and Nári, the second group on their tales. The final group loitered in the centre, unsure of which of the Dwarves to attack. Fáli’s arrow thudded into the flank of a Warg, whilst Silé’s and Ári’s throwing axes landed just behind them. Baeli’s two-handed axe cleaved the head off a Warg, whilst Nári defended himself from the jaws of his opponent. Three Wargs leapt towards Dwóin and his companions, whilst the other two attacked Silé, Ári and Fáli. Dwóin cried out in pain as a Warg claw ripped through his armour, but thankfully not through. The Dwarves, discouraged by this, did all they could to defend themselves, backing away from the ferocious beasts. Ári chucked an axe into the mouth of a Warg when it tried to bite him, whilst Dwóin was chucked through the air by the Warg he was fighting. The other Dwarves merely held off their opponents, who were becoming enraged by the scent of blood. Ári ripped through another Warg, clearly remembering what they did to his father. Nári was knocked to the floor by one of the Wargs, enraging his brother. Silé gave a mighty yell, throwing an axe through a Warg whilst Ári and Fáli rushed to help. His axe seemed to have gone straight through the Warg and into another, killing it as well! Fáli skilfully stabbed an arrow through the final Warg’s eye, ending the threat. Good victory – 4 Influence Points. Ári, Silé and Baeli gain 3 experience points, Dwóin and Fáli gain 2, whilst Nári gains 1. The four Dwarves rushed over to Dwóin and Nári; fortunately both turned out to be fine, just exhausted from the battle and scouting. “Silé, we’ve found a Goblin encampment.” Silé nodded. “We rest first, and attack at first light.” |

Post subject: | Re: Silé's Hunters - An Angered Beast |
An Angered Beast Baeli wok suddenly, from an uneasy sleep. He could hear something. A strange howling noise came, like that of an angered beast. He shivered. There it was again. High pitched screams were cut off, and Baeli quickly woke Silé. “Silé,” he said. “There’s something out there.” Silé nodded, and listened intently. He frowned, trying to work out what it was. Silé’s eyes widened in recognition. “Wake the others. There’s a cave troll loose.” Baeli swallowed visibly. Good: Silé, Dwóin, Baeli, Fáli, Nári, and Ári Evil: Cave Troll To win, the good side must kill the Cave Troll The Cave Troll howled; Fáli and Dwóin raising their bows to shoot the angered brute as it stomped towards them. “Aim for the eyes” Dwóin whispered, and Fáli nodded. Fáli’s arrow whistled past the cave trolls head, whilst Dwóin’s bounce of its thick skull. Two more arrows bounced off the monsters head, and Fáli cursed. Ári looked ready to kill, but Baeli placed a hand on his shoulder, with a whispered “wait.” The Dwarves moved to surround the troll as it advanced on Dwóin and Fáli. This close, Dwóin easily shoot an arrow into the eye of the brute, whilst one of Silé’s throwing axes stuck in its thick hide. The troll charged into Dwóin and Fáli, with Silé, Nári and Ári leaping to defend them. It kicked out at Silé, but the blow was not fatal. All 6 Dwarves encircled the maddened troll, Dwóin and Fáli knocked unconscious by it. Fáli, now disheartened, avoided the Troll whilst Baeli, Nári and Ári leapt at it, angered. Nári’s axe bit through the flesh of the troll, adding another bleeding wound to it. The beast tried to crush Ári, who managed to avoid its swinging blows. He was not so lucky the second time, as both he and Nári were knocked out. With just two of them, the Dwarves were easy prey for the troll, and it knocked them out, before it charged out of the camp, ready to rampage. Silé makes a full recovery, whilst Baeli makes a full recovery and receives D6 influence points (Wounds of a Hero). Dwóin and Ári are unable to participate next game, whilst both Fáli and Nári die from their wounds. Evil Victory – 2 Influence Points +D6 (5) for Wounds of a Hero. 6 Influence points were spent on recruiting, and a 5 and 2 were rolled. The Dwarves receive a Dwarf Ranger with two-handed axe, and a choose one of the above, so get a Dwarf Ranger with bow. These Dwarves became Nári and Fáli, who died in the previous battle. Ári, Silé, Dwóin and Baeli are now on 4 experience points, whilst Nári and Fáli are on 0 Ári rushed over to his brother. “I thought you were dead,” he said, crouching down to examine his brother’s wounds and hug him, as Silé walked over to Dwóin. “It’s just a scratch,” Dwóin muttered. “That it may be, but you are in no fit state to fight,” Silé told him firmly. “We will wait until you recover before we attack the Goblin camp, the four us cannot destroy them by ourselves. We will brave ferocious Wargs and rampaging Trolls, but we will not die.” |

1 thing I don't understand from the BC rules is how you can get reinforcement. Could anyone explain it to me? |

Post subject: | Re: Silé's Hunters - Battle Company |
You spend 3 influence to roll once on the table, and then apply the result - here's the one I'm using: D6 Result 1 No effect 2 Dwarf Ranger with Two-Handed Axe 3 Dwarf Ranger with Throwing Weapons 4 Dwarf Ranger with Bow 5 Choose one of the above 6 Choose one of the above or roll again on the table below D6 Result 1 Dwarf Warrior with Two-Handed Axe 2 Dwarf Warrior with Shield 3 Dwarf Warrior with Bow 4 Khâzad Guard 5 Iron Guard 6 Choose one of the above You can then use any amount of influence to increase the roll. For me, I spent 6 influence, and rolled a 2 and a 5. Fortunately for me this allowed me to replace my dead with identical models |

Ok, now I understand, just one question, your list is different from the dwarf list in the link, how can you make your own? |

Post subject: | Re: Silé's Hunters - Battle Company |
Choose around 60 points of Warriors as the starting force (generally 6 or 7 warriors), and make the chart to suit - I wanted a ranger theme so the majority of reinforcements will be rangers. The more powerful something is, the harder it is to receive as reinforcements. |

Post subject: | Re: Silé's Hunters - Battle Company |
No problem - they are gained instead of rolling on the Hero Advance table, you can choose to take them. If anyone wants me to make them a battle company, just pm me the "theme" and what you'd like in it, and I'll make it for you |

Thanks , you'd probably have to ask your GW if they'll let you, I can't see any reason they'd really object, especially if you use the pdf that used to be available |
