Out of curiosity... How long does it take you guys to paint a miniature?

I know this is a slightly broad question... Specifically though, how long does it take you (on average) to paint a miniature (man-sized) to what you would call your average paint job?

Cheers,

Elladan

about 5 hours or so but i am never satisfied with the results to be fair. It all depends on the figure too

for models on foot 1 hour and 30 minutes for models mounted between two hours and 45 minutes. Yep most people say that I paint pretty fast.

For a standard 28mm then about 5 hours on average.
For a huge troll then about 20-30 hours if I'm going for top quality.

4 hours for a hero or mounted figure
1:40 to 2 hours for a normal model

And the fast painting of normal models is because I normally batch-paint them with 10 at once.

It depends hugely on what the mini is. If it's troops, they typically get batch painted, with colours blocked in then a wash, and doing this I can get about 10 minis done in just under an hour if it's a simple scheme like Uruks or Warriors of Minas Tirith. Heroes I spend longer on, so 2-3 hours depening on what exactly the mini has to paint.

So far this year I have painted 101 LotR minis (and some 40k and Deadzone), so I'd say I get through stuff pretty fast in that regard.

A very detailed man-sized hero miniature, about 3 hours. In average 2 hours. I find it so time consuming for myself that I go into long layoffs from painting projects, hence the backlog.

oh i hear you on that one.

I've never really timed myself but I'd guess 2 hours or so for a regular foot troop.

Characters of course get more than this.

Depends. Standard infantry get a good 3-4 hours each under the spotlight, while heroes and big monsters can take anything from 6-40 hours. The recent Wood Elf Treeman I painted took 8 hours just on the head alone, but then again, I am overly fastidious when it comes to painting. :-D

Single miniature: on average 10 hours or more, spread over weeks or months even. It's all about the quality I want to achieve.

4-5 hours usually. I can go longer (or shorter!) depending on the model and its level of detail. :-D

Over 6 hours. I guess I'm a perfectionist.

Know the feeling! Have a half finished painting project then get distracted and come back ages later only to discover your painting style has changed!

EDIT: Got the numbers wrong the first time. Here are the correct figures.

Thanks all. :D

Your times range from 6 minutes to 10 hours!
The average time is 3.5 hours!

Elladan

P.S. One day it might be fun to have a painting competition to see who can paint the best in a very short time frame?
