Post subject: | How to paint your dragon |
Hello, I don´t know if there is a topic like this, so I´m sorry when I´m asking the same question someone else already did. How do you paint your dragon? Which colours, which techniques and how is the result? I want to paint my dragon in a ghostly looking scheme. It shoot be dark, maybe already black. However the biggest model I painted was a cave troll. Which ideas, advice or even pictures do you have for me? greetings, Rescrus |

I painted a Cave Drake a while back and I went about it similar to any other figure. After priming I base coated everything to see that my colour scheme works for me. Then it's a case of going about the highlights and shading. I think the trick is, to concentrate on a small area \ colour at a time i.e. shading the underbelly or highlighting there spines. You can speed things up with dry brushing the scales. |

I wanted a green dragon after the name of the pub in Hobbiton, and thought that green would contrast nicely with Smaug's red. |

I will later try to upload a photo of my red Dragon. I didn't use any particular technique besides the heavy application of Gryphone Sephia (I don't remember its current name), which gave him a nice soft golden hue. |

@Gandalf the grey: Oh, thank you. I thought, that I need a special technique... I can paint clothes and armour, but I got my problems with a realistic skin. Bilbo wrote: I wanted a green dragon after the name of the pub in Hobbiton, and thought that green would contrast nicely with Smaug's red. Well that´s also an idea... green is a cool colour. I think I will use a mix with it. Constantine wrote: I will later try to upload a photo of my red Dragon. I´m looking foward to your picture =) I think the new name is Seraphim Sepia, but I also have one pot of the older one. BTW: This is the dragon model I will use. mfg, Rescrus |

Wow, guys that´s really cool stuff. I like the drake, he really looks like he spends his hole life under the mountains. And the green of the other is also cool. The white is a great looking contrast to it. You drybrushed him, didn´t you? I think a big problem is to stay concentrated. When you see the end of your job coming you started to go lazy and just wanted to get the miniature done. And in case of a big model like a dragon.. |
