I was looking through the forums, but I couldn't find one on sculpting in particular. Either I'm not looking properly, or there is not one. Anyways, I thought this was the closest to sculpting. So, I've been sculpting a lot recently and I'm enjoying it. There is one annoying hinderance though; the weapons. I know it's pretty easy to nick a sword from an existing model, but I'm not fond of that, and I want to make the weapons my own way and style. eBob does some nice weapons, but then again, they're not exact. So basically, how do I sculpt them? I have previously used plasticard but that's not what I want, I just doesn't have the edge like Games Workshops weapons. I've searched online for tutorials but can't find any. Does anyone here know of any online, or do you know how to do it? Please help, with what tools, resources and putty/mediums I should use. I want to continue with my sculpting and practice making the weapons. Yours Sincerely, Bofur The Dwarf |

You are correct, we don't have a section on sculpting, but perhaps we should. We do have some sculpting guides in the Tomes of wisdom, located in the header menu at the top of the page but not specifically on weapons. Personally with blade weapons, I tend to use brownstuff over a small wire armature. Brown stuff is easier than green or procreate as it sets rock hard and is easily filed. The downside is it can be brittle which is why an armature is a good idea. Plastic sprues can also be filed down to make weapons. In the meantime check out this thread which may help you find what you are looking for: http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=17239&p=241888#p241888 |

Milliput is also an option. It seems to fit UKFB's description on brown stuff. Another alternative would be casting. If you can cast weapon that you already have or have sculpted, then it can be very efficient and speedy. Also consistent. |

Brown stuff behaves a bit like green initially. The only difference is it holds edges better and sets hard. My experience with Milliput is that it is very sticky, and lubricating tools and work surfaces gets very messy as the product is initially water soluble. |

For weapons I hammer down thick paper clips and cut them to the right size and shape. |

I have been using thick plasticard to create weapons. I would recommend casting if you need to mass produce otherwise your results with plasticard won't be uniform. |
