Post subject:  Nuln oil not working?

Hey guys, I purchased a pot of nuln oil when it first came out and used it to effect. I hadn't painted in a while and decided to have a little session and noticed a few of my newer washes were all whiteish/greyish at the top so I thought nothing of it and gave them a nice shake. However using my nuln oil now causes the paint to either dissappear or go that whitey grey colour in it's deepest recesses where it should be darkest.

Wondering if anyone has had it happen and if they were able to fix it or best off buying a new pot? Thanks

The only problem I had was that it went shiny because I didnt shake it enough. Was your brush clean? Also, give it a really good shake, like 30 seconds of solid shaking.

I have had this happen to with both nuln oil and badab black. I don't know why it happens but it is rather annoying. I have switched to vallejo inks now, much better. Out of interest how much nuln oil was left in the pot?

It's about 3 quarters full. I'll try giving it a longer shake but I'm not sure, it is annoying because I'm having to reapply it in the recesses making the figure darker than I wish. It only seems to 'fade' to the deepest recesses where it's at it's thickest.

Sounds to me like the medium/carrier they are using is separating from the color when water evaporates out of the pot. Try adding some water to it and then shake it very well.

I too have had this problem.
The first couple of time i used it it dried a greyish white in the deeper parts of the models, which has been pointed out should be the darkest. I think it because the wash gathers too thick and dosnt seem to dry right. I just started doing lighter washes and then repeating with another wash once the first wash was dry until it looked the way I wanted it to.
Never had a problem with badab black though and I did some really heavy washes with that.
