Primers

Hey all
ive only just got through my last batch of stuff to prime and my primer has run out
i dont really fancy paying a tenner for another citadel can. Are there any cheaper alternatives out there that do the same job?
also do you think white or black primer is better?

Cheaper alternatives, yes. But you just have to be careful they are not too thick, or else you'll obscure detail. Of course you could just spray it on thin

As for the colour, personally I prefer to undercoat models that will have a bright colour scheme in white, whereas ones with a dark colour scheme in black. White primer tends to give almost natural highlights, and it is the opposite with black, which gives natural shading

Yes, any auto primer will work fine, just experiment on a couple mini's first as the application may be different. You may be able to find some colors besides grey. I use army painter colored primers when I am batch painting, I have also used P3 primer and have been happy with it. I use a brush on primer when doing individuals.

If I were you I would probably go for hobby paints, as general hardware paints i find dont stick to metal models and can obscure detail.

Covers well, doesnt obscure detail, cheaper and more in the can. They do it in white aswell if you want that color.

I've probably mentioned it before, but if you are Uk based, then I can recommend Halfords matt black primer. It can put down a very fine coat. Picked up the large can the other day seven pounds something, can't recall exact figure.

Must have been through at least 20 cans
