Post subject:  what paints to use?

Hi there, as some of you might know I'm working on a Legolas diorama, since it's as good as finished I need some help on the last part: Legolas himself. I used a white undercout for him since most colours will be lighter, but now I have a problem with this. If I paint the skin with my skincolour it's way too dark. Working with layers doesn't work since the paint is too thick. I'm not using GW paint but I'm considering I'm going to use them. But I never used the paints before, oh well, not for the skin. So my questions is, if I use a white undercoat for the model, what paints do I need for the skin? I allready stripped the models 3 times so please help me.. If I finish Legolas the diorama will be complete!

Thanks,
Jorn.

If you go check Tomes of Wisdom there is a painting guide for Legolas.
In that painting guide Legolas was giving a white undercoat.
I hope you can find a answer in that painting guide.

For Legolas' skin I would assume you're going to be going for a quite pale/light skintone? In which case I would probably start at Tanned Flesh (although you could always start at Dark Flesh if you wanted deeper looking recesses) and then work your way through adding Dwarf Flesh/Elf Flesh to the mix untill you get to a final highlight of Elf Flesh. This is the way I would do it but by no means the best way. Remember to keep the paints watered down, otherwise the paint will be too thick and the details in the face will no longer be visible.

Alternatively, if you're not comfortable doing that many layers of highlighting, you could just go with an Elf Flesh basecoat, give it a wash with Ogryn Flesh and then highlight the raised areas once using Elf Flesh again.

Hope that helps a bit.

Out of curiousity, which paints are you using at the moment?

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try! :D
Ordering some paint right now!

And the paints I use are from Revell, but they can't be watered down, it'll be blurry, which is hard to paint details sometimes..
I'll upload some pictures in my WIP once I got the order!
