I have been looking at several articles, and they say that they use black ink, is this equivalent to GW's Badab black or is it a thinned down version of Chaos Black?

Inks were the predecessors. They gave a glossier finish when dry. GW has replaced the inks with the washes, which are matte when dry, and are much superior in my opinion. Badab black would be a good substitute for black ink.

Many of our articles tell you to dilute the inks, but the new washes work "straight out of the pot" for most purposes. So, if you get Badab Black to replace Black Ink, there's usually no need to dilute it.
