Post subject: | New Citadel Mega Paint Set on Advance Order |
The new paint set is up for advance order (as you could probably tell from the link you clicked to get to this page). It offers a pretty good saving - you essentially pay for the paint and get the rest free - and by "the rest" I mean quite a lot: you get a figure case, the ten brushes, basing stuff and some PVA glue. It does seem like a pretty good deal, but not something most of us would buy as we have a lot of the paints already. I can see that it would be good to someone just getting into the hobby, or else getting back after a long absence though. Check the Games Workshop website |

Yeah, definately a good purchase for someone getting into the hobby, though they would want to be pretty sure it's something they want to continue for sometime. |

We just don't use every colour though, we use the main ones and have to buy more of those (black, white etc) and the rest just sit there with minimal use. Not to mention its £120 out of my budget |

Or you could just buy what you need(go to a discounter - I buy my paint from maelstrom for 1/3 of the price that they sell it here in aus) instead of having the insane compulsion of needing EVERYTHING when in reality, you only need a third of the colours. |

Does anybody actually need all £120 worth, and if you are just starting out, would you really want to pay that in one go? Can't see the point or real market in these mega-sets myself. |

I do . I'm mainly in this hobby for the painting side, so I like all the paints I can get. |

I gets me the results I would get with all of those paints for way less. Like above, that many colours is unnecessary IMO. |

I happen to have all the Citadel colours... and I'm telling you I don't use half of them. They are useful to have, but as already stated, the amount of times you use them is minimal. Some paints I haven't even used yet Don't buy the mega-set... buy the colours you need, and if you have a little money extra then get some different ones. And a golden rule, never buy them from GW... Discount stores like Maelstroms are much better |

$413 AUS??? All that cash for a few litres of paint and some brushes and other bits and peices? What a rip off! |

Yeah, it is rip off. I would definately not buy it, as Julian already said, you don't even use half, I have about 35 and I only use about 20. Anyway, if you bought it you would find yourself spending tons of time just looking for the right colour... |

Yeah. A fair few of my paints are cheap acrylic paints I got for half price. Not as good as GW ones but they are good enough for certain coats of colouring. BTW, the trick to finding the right colour is to paint a bit of that colour on top of the lid. It helps A LOT! |

Instant paint finding goodness. It sounds a bit OCD, but its so annoying never being able to find the paint you want, and this system eliminates that problem.

I've got doubles and triples of many colors by some wierd unexplainable reason, and they're all in a mess all over my desk, but when I paint - I never have problem finding them, I don't even have to look xD |

No use to me either. I've got most of the paints as it is, I'm missing a few Foundations and Washes, so I only spend a few pound at a time. And that is depending on the figures I'm doing. I can't see the value for a new painter as you spend £120 on the lot, then decide you either don't like it or prefer the gaming side etc. Then you flog them on Ebay for £6.50 for the lot and you wonder why you got them. Like most thinks it's best to test the water and let things flourish as you develop and learn. |
