The usual high quality article. Your Edoras has always been a bit of a favourite for me. Just something about it and nobody has produced anything like it. This deserves every bit of praise it gets (and then some). A continued inspiration to many a terrainist and everyone wanting to see what is possible with a bit of wood, glue, a plan and an imagination

Lovely piece Alan, your usual high standard, you're definately one of the best (just for not saying the best.. although we all know you are) terrain-master in this hobby!

A real beauty mate!

All 3 of these peices are not only inspirational from a terrain building perspective, but also as a guidline on how an article should be produced.

Star quality as we would expect from the expert.

A really good piece. Top quality but the only thing is that when i try to print out the templates thing come out to small and if i am going to use them for the horsehead pillars they will be too small. What can i do????? Any help would be great :D

1st off - welcome to the site - I hope you gain as much pleasure and knowlege out of it as I have

I have not read the article for quite some time and as I have a VERRRRRY slow connection have no desire to sit here and wait whilst it downloads again

I would suggest that since Dagorlad is normally very thorough - then it is possibly a problem with your own settings on your computer

Have you investigated that aspect?

Thank you for the nice welcome. I have tried what you ave said and the templates are alot better now. they are near enought the right size its just on some of them are a 1mm out and some are a bit too big by about 5mm. Well thanks for the advice anyway, i will go and see what i can do :D

Hi Wellsey and welcome to the One-Ring.

The templates are saved in Adobe's PDF format and are intended to be an accurate scale for you to print out and use. But Adobe does some weird things while trying to cope with the different paper sizes and printer margins around the world.

To get them to print out properly, follow these steps:
  • Open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Click the File menu, and choose Print. The Print dialog box will appear.
Notice under the print preview image that it says something like 'Zoom 97%' This is what we need to fix.
  • Somewhere on the dialog (it varies depending on which version of Acrobat you're using), there is an option called Page Scaling. Open the list and choose None. Now click the OK button.

That should have done the trick and it should start printing properly.

Awesome terrain piece. Makes me wish I had recently bankrupted myself investing in a Rohan army instead of the Mordor one I chose.

It's got some great stuff for beginners like me - how to work with balsa, building from simple primitive shapes, designing plans, etc... but it is advanced enough to be a great reference for much time to come.

Thanks again for a wonderful article!

first post here on the one ring

I love this wall. its incredible and i would love to do something like this. I'm not the biggest rohan fan though. So I intend on making similar palisade wall with an easterling theme to it

Thanks for the guide and inspiration

Edit: as ya sed polyfiler was sticking to my fingers more than the balsa in the little expiriments i've done, a coat of pain actually solves this, the poly filler sticks better and easier

Thanks guys.

This article is seriously dated now and I would do things very differently if I were to remake the model - such as using blue/pink styrofoam for the walls, and not using bamboo bbq skewers for the palisade walls.

Hi Alan!

I found the templates for the Edoras gatehouse years ago and now started building it. Great work and much appreciated!

Are there any other blueprints you made for any terrain concerning Rohan? Your blueprints are the best ones I found yet so maybe there is more...?

Of course I know that the last post here is 14 years old...

Best regards!
Matthias
