A week, a month, a year can go by with mediocre articles being published, then once in a blue moon, one comes along that simply blows the socks off anything submitted previously...and this is certainly the latter :!:

To be able to see how something so amazing was created from scratch and view the each process as it happened is a hobbyists delight, or certainly in my case.

The detail involved is simply superb and if anyone else were to try and create this piece of terrain, I honestly can not see they could possible beat this :!:

phenomenal achievement !!!

The commitment you have shown by paying that much attention to detail shows that you are certainly a worthy craftsperson for this wonderful hobby, and the wonderful world of Tolkien.

I am impressed with your statue. It certainly looks great!

I am interested that you used mdf for the hands and face. Wouldn't putty have been a lot easier? Still, you worked wonders with the mdf.

This was a very interesting article and I hope that you will post many more.

It's a shared account between the members of a group who construct scenery, paying for it from their own pockets. So, as it's a group, they must keep saying we, which is unusual on this site.

at First it looked a lot like the Bookends that come with the special edition of the Dvd, and I thought the article would look like this :

"Buy the Argonath bookends off some chap, and bob's your uncle"

Awesome! Fantastic! Great article.
However as I think I might have said when the statue was shown in the forums, Isildur is facing perpendicularly away from the quarry of which the statue was made - wheareas in the movie the statue is facing parrallel to the quarry. This is a minor issue however.
Also isn't the statue that isn't Isildur (ie the other one) Elendil, and not Anarion, the other son? I just wonder this because Narsil is evidently in the statue's grasp and there is a beard, as sported by Peter McKenzie in the FotR Prologue?

But, I like to think that this article is a miniature view of how the Numenoreans themselves built the original statues over years and years. The article is great with great pics and details etc, and the result is frankly brilliantly.

What does the (I assume) Elvish sentence mean at the very end?

I can't believe you created these two in under a month! :shock:

I find your work with MDF a pleasure to the eyes, it's fabulous stuff! I think working with polystyrene might have been easier however your choice of paint is spray which makes is easier in that department. I can't get enough of your work

Ah, yes, the “Royal We…”. My girlfriend thinks it sounds really stupid all the time. I find it most amazing how you utilise MDF as a sculpting material. I had planned on making a giant Argonath of my own (800mm tall) but was going to carve it completely from styrofoam. It was a very interesting read to see how others use different techniques.

How tall did your Isildur & Anarion end up? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the article.
