http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/the-hobbit ... s-rated-r/ Apparently the announcement is official. The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies Extended Edition is going to be rated R for "Some Violence". I can't believe that they could add anything to the nearly bloodless movie that would make it R, and I have never heard of a movie being rated R for "Some violence", only ever something like "graphic" or something. And there is no way it could have more violence than the LotR trilogy. Unless Beorn eats a BUNCH of orcs or something, I don't see how this could possibly be the case. Thoughts? |

It takes a hell of a lot to get a 15 rating these days, so to manage an R is quite a feat... |

It could be any number of things of course (the chronicles book speaks of a gruesome death for Alfrid for example) but my money is it being the scene where Bifur get the axe pulled out of his head. He's not a generic CGI Orc and I imagine seeing an axe stump yanked out of someone's head will be quite a violent and gory moment. Roll on November! |

And here I was hoping for some Kili and Tauriel action... Funny how the "children's" movie gets a R rating. So what? It's not in theatres, won't effect their sales unlike buying tickets and having the clerks ask for i.d (as if any of them really care or are on a power trip) |

That's news. When, where and why? I'd rather see Lotr extended in theatres. |

October, I think a small number of theaters, and go make more money. Alfrid's death would have to be really gruesome for that alone to be worth an R. |

As mentioned in one of the comments on the referenced article - it might be because of the implied violence against the women and children of Laketown/Dale. Or more Orc beheadings - has anyone counted how many orcs lose their heads? |

Personally I'd like to see a slightly more brutal deaths for Fili and Kili (theatrical edition seemed to lack a bit of punch in that aspect). I faintly remember reading somewhere (it was a long time ago mind) that Dain's axe was changed to a hammer because of the risk of an increased violence rating. Perhaps we could see that revert back? |

Lots of women and children were targeted in TTT and ROTK. I'm just finding it hard to believe that the Hobbit, of all fantasy movies, would get an R rating for any reason. |

AUJ extended should've received an R just for those dwarves skinny dipping alone. |

I look forward to seeing this version as the cinema release was so blatantly chopped short in places. |

Probably some graphic scenes of smaug burning laketown. I hope not, burnings are the only thing I can't stomach. |

Or doesn't it count when it's a massive creature covered in scales and *SPOILERS* dropping dead rather than casually bathing? |
