If you are not bothered about your armies looking like the movies these would be great for the men of lake town...( Exactly how I imagined them when I first read the book actually. )

36 for the cost if 3 fine cast movie versions!

I'll be using the archers for Blackroot Vale, and I'll find a use for the Men at Arms. Gotta be a fiefdom spare.

Not really evocative of the Lakemen, to me, though.

This is in the future though, when I've exhausted the GW range/they've canned it all.

I always envisioned them to be similar to the warriors of Rohan, but blue/green and without the horse motifs.

To qualify my OP. The archers are how I imagined the men of Laketown, the maa in full harness look too prosperous. I will probably kit bash these with a few other sets to get the sword men and spearmen.

Archers are nice but I can't think of any use for the foot knights that actually fits with the look of any of the current models.

Dol Amroth or other Fiefdoms perhaps? I wouldn't personally but still...

While I don't really agree with the idea of a 15th century harness wearing army poking around end-of-Third-Age Middle-earth, your post did inspire me to go poking around.

I am pretty convinced that the Dale/Dorwinion, River Running engagement zone, with its Northmen and Easterling cultural encounter is going to be filled with warriors who would evoke early medieval Russians, Kievan Rus and Varangians (Or Variags to give them their Slavic name - I've my eye on you, professor Tolkien). Laketown is going to be a trading hub a little like Novgorod. Not directly, not perfectly, but certainly something closer to the Sons of Eorl than anything

Now to figure out how to create a warband of such figures...

The melee infantry are too modern to my liking, but the gambeson-wearing archers are perfect for how I imagine Laketown. Great looking set.

Those Russians look great, and with some conversion could make a great ally for dwarves or elves.

I think the angry Russian peasants look much better than the other option. They really give the feeling of a militia rather than a fully armoured army.

I quite like the archers from that set as Laketown men, as well, and the plate-armored footmen would fit the bill as Swan Knights (in keeping with the WETA aesthetic, in which Middle-Earth clearly does have plate armor). Naturally they would need some wings added to the sides of their helmets, and I might consider capes as well since it seems like basically everyone and their mother wears a cloak or cape at all times in Jackson's Middle-Earth, but on the whole I think that could work.

I even have a converted Bard (from long before The Hobbit movies) from an old Halbarad, and I think, side by side with a cohesive paint scheme, these archers would look OK with him.

Tempting...

If you want to use Perry plastic War of the Roses range, much better option than the new English army seems to me this one:

WR1 Plastic Wars of the Roses Infantry (bows and bills)

Galanur, I meant them for general use. You are right they don't fit to poorly armed militia. For such purpose could be useful Dark Age Warriors by Gripping Beast. 44 of them £ 22.00, not bad at all. The only problem is they lack bows.

If you like those, then checkout Wargames Factory Saxon Fyrd.
You get 32 in a box, with a mix of weapons, spears, swords axes and bows. There are 8 bows per box I think.

I have both sets of figures and I like them. They will be on the tall side and a little beefier than LOTR, but I think they will work.

Isn't it pretty lame that a pretty weak and not all that good looking company of militia models was put into resin instead of plastic. Makes no sense. If I was a player I'd rather have the men of Laketown be represented by the city guard having the choice. They're better looking and their gaming stats must be better as well being professionally trained soldiers.

Perry miniatures do look awesome though, someday I might purchase from these guys to make an Eriador force :)

Well its still GW but I honestly find these to be closest to lake town as anyone even though people dont seem to like the way warhammer models look:

You know the Perry's have a fan base. We basically know who they are, if I were them I would continue making a fantasy line, "unofficial Middle-Earth" miniatures, of elves, dwarfs, orcs and people would be eating it up.
