Not sure what I think of it. Let's just see how the movies plays out and if it's good enough, I doubt I'll bother the pigs. |

You know what? I love that his hammer isn't grossly oversized. In fact, in a humans hands it'd probably be pretty practical. Nice job, Weta. Less nice job - Dain is specifically referred to as having a "red axe". At least the hammer is red. Half right, I guess. The pig is cute. |

I think this may well be photographic concept art for the film rather than an actual still. In several sources for the film Dain has been identified by his red-axe too, rather than a red hammer, which actually belongs to Thrain. |

This little piggy went to Erebor... Dain looks good, maybe he has an axe too as a secondary weapon? The pig, meh, the head armour looks a bit silly at first glance. |

I was hoping it was going to be a boar, not an actual pig. |

The Dwarves he brings are also specifically said to arrive on foot, where chainmail and carrying mattocks and swords and number 500. There looks to be more than 500 there to me, and that isn't including the ram-riders. It is also said that all of Thorin's Company carried axes during the battle, whereas it looks to me that very few of them will other than Gloin and maybe Fili. |

It's just the most memorable part of him, for me. That and killing azog and being dour at the gate of moria. So nothing from the hobbit, then. |

Here's how I see the movies: Bilbo's second (or third) draft of his book. We know he's keen on exaggeration, and that he wasn't always entirely honest with his adventures (the riddles in the dark), so while the book itself is how it actually happened (there were actually 500 dwarves on foot), this is just one of Bilbo's ways of making it a bit more interesting (there were hundreds of dwarves riding battle goats and battle pigs!). |
