Hi All, I'm not sure if this has been brought up, but here I go... PJ is using IMAX technology to film The Hobbit. My town should be getting one by the time of the release! How cool is that?! |

Also the frame-rate will be 48fps not 24. From some a screening that he did the 48fps didn't get positive reviews. Peter Jackson said it was expected and attributed the bad reviews to the fact that 48fps is something totally new. |

The reality of it was that the preview screening was Beta-level footage, that had had no cleaning up, no colouring, no weathering etc at all. Which accounts for why people thought it looked too 'real'. We've recently learned as well that most cinemas aren't equipped to show 48fps, so there's kinda a fuss about nothing, as most places will get the standard 24fps shipped to them. |

So there will be two version? A 48fps and a 24? I hope the Extended DVDs are released in 48fps, but this is far from soon. |

Many current digital theaters COULD show 48fps with a software upgrade only (obviously with a cost to the theaters though...but you know they'll do it). So it's not as bad as when theaters were first cutting over to digital to begin with. But I would be surprised if more than 15% - 25% of the theaters do that early on. Keep in mind that The Hobbit is leading the path, but Avatar 2 is coming right along behind it and will also be 48fps. Those two big tickets are going to inspire a lot of theaters to change over. I just wish a 48fps NON-3D option would be available but I imagine most places that go with the higher frame rate are going to use it on the 3D version. Not trying to start a 3D argument as I'll admit it's impressive. But I just do not find myself sucked into a film wearing the glasses. I sit and enjoy Avatar, for example, VERY much in 2D and can just fall into the imagery, story and 'fun' and not be part of this world for a few hours. But when I'm wearing the glasses I realize constantly that I'm watching a movie. A very cool movie, but still just a movie. I'd much rather see The Hobbit in 48fps but if I have to 'go low' to get a non-3D version then so be it. |

I'm going for the non-3D version too, Beowulf. 3D should stay at theme parks, or for movies that are aimed at kids. |

3D Television and Film is and will remain a gimmick more appropriate to Theme Park attractions and children/family films, until the necessity for 3D glasses is removed. Until then, 2D High Def TVs/Films are enough. |

I've only seen two 3d movies. The first was years ago at imax, 'deep sea 3d', and it was really good. The second was the tintin movie, and that was really, really bad. It didn't seem like the 3d was working half the time, and when it did it was just distracting..... I too hope that there will be 48fps without 3d. |

From what I have heard, there is no plan to do the Hobbit in 3D. The higher frame rate is to increase picture quality. I believe It's a larger screen, too. More EPIC! |

They're definitely using 3D, PJ talks about the special 3D cameras in one of the Hobbit video blogs. |

It's being filmed in 3D, but thankfully (like all 3D currently) the theaters will typically devote a screen each to the 3D and non-3D versions. I was expressing that I hope the non-3D will still have the 48fps option...not holding my breath for that though. |

Well, if they do offer the 3D, I'm undecided what version I would see it first. My experience with 3D is that I find it a neat technology, but it doesn't add to the movie as a whole. Sometimes becoming distracting. For me, the 3D illusion is just not that important. Either way, I'm really excited for the movie! |
