Post subject:  Bad news for GW addicts.
I don't know about the repercusions for anyone overseas, but for all of us lucky enough to be living in her Majesty's British Isles, the government is sticking VAT back up to 17.5% as of January 1st, 2010.

I expect GW will be pretty quick to change their prices for start of business on the 2nd...


Better spend that Christmas money now.

What? why? Again? If I knew what VAT was I may understand but this just seems ridiculous.

The idea of getting models from other ranges for a cheaper price seems friendlier and friendlier.

VAT is a sales tax applied to most things, but luxuries in particular. The British government reduced VAT as a way of making people buy more stuff. GW, if I remember correctly, eventually dropped their prices, a bit, in response.

But the prices will be going right back up, with the re-increase of the tax and maybe a bit more just for the hell of it.

Unfortunately, this price increase will also apply to independent retailers like Wayland Games and Maelstrom. The difference being is that they'll still have their discounts.

VAT is not just applied to 'luxuries': it is applied to most goods, including basic items like clothing.

I too am concerned that someone might take the reversion to 17.5% VAT as an opportunity to slip in an extra price rise when maybe no-one will notice. Listening to the cacophany of economic pundits, it is rapidly apparent that none of them have any real notion of whether the UK will come out of recession this coming year (Ireland almost certainly will not). The lack of job security and employers taking the chance to cut wages means people have less income, plus credit is harder to come by and savers have seen their income slashed yet those seeking a mortgage now have to raise deposits of 25-50%. So, it appears gloomy.

There was always a small chance that the 15% rate would run for longer, but the UK is to all practical purposes bankrupt so the government will be seeking to recoup money ASAP after the inevitable election coming no later than May 2010. After that, all bets are off... :x

I was listening to more economists this morning - they expect some well known companies to try to absorb some of all of the reversion to 17.5% VAT themselves as they are terrified that people will stop spending.

As i'm following some economists college-thingys, i can see that if the VAT was first, lets say, 10% and it will increase to 17,5% that most companies will charge(also a lets say) 18,5. Most people will never notice that the price did not only increase because of the VAT but also because of the compagne itself. And the people will blame the government for the priceincrease while the compagne gets the money.

And i think there's a big chance that GW is one of those compagne's

VAT is/was 17.5%.

It was dropped to 15% meaning a reduction of about 15p on an £8 blister.

What it means is that, as of tommorrow, the blister should revert to being £8 and not £7.85.


Simple as that.

all Vatable products they sell? thats everything then, the rise will not be 2.5% it never is in britain, it will more likly be 3%, just wait till the next budget comes, some predicting that to keep britain from going bust VAT will be put up to 20% to injject money into the coffers.... i can assume form all of this that there is noone in westminster that buys from GW or lives in the real world!
