Saw this tidbit on the GW What's new Blog:

GW What's New Today Blog wrote:
So what can [the Dweller in the Dark] do? Well firstly, they are incredibly potent in combat. With a Fight value of 7 they are better at fighting than most enemy heroes... these dark creatures have a high defence and plenty of Wounds to survive the encounter. They also have the intensely irritating (for your opponent) ability to regain lost Wounds when they cause damage, making them a very durable and extremely nasty addition to a Moria army.

All this for the price less than a Cave Troll (if the sample Moria army is to be believed)

I'd suggest placing this in the already existing thread, just so it doesn't get too complicated.;)

Seems to me that the current thread is already too complicated... but I'm okay if an Mod wants to move it.

I just went from "wanting one" to "needing one".

As I beleive I have already posted elsewhere, if GW are to be trusted on this, they are extremely overpowered, worse than a Spider Queen and Cave Drake combined.

And Draugluin, why only one, why not three, four or five?

$40 is a tad restrictive in the number I can get. Maybe that's why they're so powerful, to make you buy one.

Ordered one the other day, can't wait to paint it, really enjoyed painting the old metal balrog.

That is a natural break on stat creep. New models are even more expensive then the old ones, so none gets a lot of them (the exception being WOTR Morannons, who are not only the cheapest, but also the most overpowered unit in the game)

Moramnnon Orcs are definately not the most overpowered unit in the game, I can think of several more overpowered.

Maybe Blackshields and/or Arbalesters, but I can't think of anything else. And Morannons are easily combined with Ringwraith Spam, so just the fact that they are in Mordor makes them just a bit better to me (25% is nice to ally in Druzhag, but not to build an army on  )

At 2,000pts, a Mordor army could ally Druzhag, Buhrdur and lots of Arbalesters. Morannon Orcs aren't as bad as Blackshields or Arbalester, WoMT and Warriors of Arnor are pretty similar to Moranons and alll 3 are noly 5pts less than they should be whereas Blackshields are 10 less than they should be, and Arbalesters are at least 10 more, if not 15 more.

Anyway, Dezaertfox has blurted that Dwellers only have defence 5, so that makes them as bad (or good, if your the one using them) as Spider Queens, but no more, except Spider queens now cost more, so Dwellers now take their crown in SBG.

WoMT and WoA are S3, which makes them rather less effective then S4 (S4 can crack a D7 shieldwall, S3 not, if I'm not mistaken). WoMT (and WoA) should be 30 pts, Morannon's 35 (they are very much like Uruk-Hai where it matters), I'm not familiar with the Blackshield profile, so I don't know, and Arbalesters should be 35/40 pts. Anyway, you get the general idea, Morannons are a highly overpowered unit and the cheapest GW mini to get (as you get 12 useful models in box, not 8 and 4 archers)

Strength 3 and Strength 4 hit Defence 7 on the same score, it only makes a differene at defemce 6 or 8. I think Morannons should only cost 30pt not 35pts.

Althoughyou are right about them being cheap to buy.

Why? They are S4, M6, D7, just like Uruk-Hai, so they should cost the same.

I just noticed how similar they look to the statues outside Minas Morgul!

@Erurainon, you're ight, though it depends on which head you give it.

@Telchar, no because Uruks are slightly better, Morannons are closer to WoMT, Warriors of Arnor and Easterlings. Strength is not the biggest factor, and move makes no difference if you're evil because you can always have a move of 12. The best stat to work profiles along is defwence, then put all, defence 7 troops at 30, then all those who have at least 2 characteristics above average eg Uruk-hia, FSKoDA, at 35, whereas average, and marginally better than average eg Morannons, WoMT, Arnor Warriors and Easterlings go at 30pts. Defence 6 follows a similar theme but with base being 25pts, (Blavkshields better stats and special rules put them at 30). That is why.

Yeah, i can see how GW has based the dweller in the dark off of the minas morgul statue. That made me like the model alot more!

Where are the Uruks better? Maybe fight or courage (f5, C5 ringwraith ends that problem). Strength is a very big factor indeed. one point of strength extra can double your kill rate against some units. If you want to stand a good chance, you need just three things (in order of importance):Defense, Strength, Move. Oh, and Ringwraiths  . Anyway, lets get back on topic.

Does anyone else really hate the Dweller in the Dark model? To me it just looks like a really skinny and wimpy Balrog.
